The revelation that Argentina has done something the US government hasn’t done in more than two decades—run a budget surplus—seems like a newsworthy event.
You remember the Clinton nonsense about the age of big government being over? Well it’s come roaring back to such a degree that you can’t even talk about market economics in the media. You read endless scorn for neo- liberalism , whatever that might be from right and left. Even writers I admire can’t stop pouring scorn on free market thinking. It gets ridiculous. And of course, the people who appear on TV or write on the internet or newspapers by and large have no comprehension of even basic economics even when they have Oxford and Harvard degrees. What’s worse is they don’t care. When I listen to them discuss inflation or some brilliant spending plan from Biden, my head almost does a Linda Blair Exorcist full spin. What they care about is what’s”right “. That is taking other people’s money to finance whatever progressive fantasies strike their fancy at the moment. Now the biggie is climate change which must be stopped by de industrializing the West. We must also be in a sweat about something called inequality which is a cancer on society which can be cured by a wealth tax and confiscatory estate taxes and of course increasing income taxes on the “ rich “ anyone earning more than $50,000. With all the money from that the government then has it can override the foolish anti social whims of earners and spend endless sums on decarbonization, social housing, subsidized gender reassignment , “free “ medical care and the war dejour. Utopia follows!
Thanks for reporting on this, Jon. I live in Brasil (3+ years) and am slowly becoming more invested and knowledgeable of the political realities of South America, in general. This news is interesting and has big implications. Thanks again!
Speaking as a fiscal conservative these are all excellent things. What I would also like to know is how these accomplishments have impacted the Argentinian citizen. Does it impact them at all?
US media have dismissed him as far right or reactionary. Hence they don’t want to give his success any credence, especially when Trump seems to favor him. I am hoping Biden’s cronies don’t attempt a color revolution and force in a new government down there.
When almost 50% of your population is in poverty, something has to change. When inflation is so awful, people are trading used items to survive, clearly whatever that economic system is isn't working. It's a knee jerk reaction to claim capitalism is only for business people. It's also not true. It's not clear if Argentinians will stay the course with this man, but there seemed to be a collective sense of excitement when he was elected.

I'd move to Argentina, but it would be inconvenient. I'd rather work to help the Milei's of the United States win.

Yeah. Giving teachers and nurses shitty pay for hard work is the right way forward... As long as the capitalists get their revenue all is well.

Jon, Helena Glass had an interesting take on this about Milei that I linked yesterday @https://nothingnewunderthesun2016.com/
You might want to take a look at it as more than one have argued that Milei is really just a puppet for business interests.
Here's the link to Helena's article - MILEI’S Argentina – A House of Rothschild Coup

Freedom is a business interest, and Milei is delivering more of it in Argentina.
