I'm old enough to remember life before VHS, DVD and then streaming. There was only network TV. The broadcast of classics like the The Ten Commandments, Wizard of Oz etc. was a one off annual event in prime time. You watched at that one-time or you waited another year!
Beautiful commentary. If you are ever able to visit the Paramount Lot in Hollywood and take a tour, you will see props and costumes from the film. The attention to detail is amazing. I also worked at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, the old Lasky DeMille Barn, and we had several props from the film- two chariot wheels, robes worn by Hebrews in the Exodus and Egyptian spears.

As kids, we couldn't wait for that one to come on CBS shortly after Thanksgiving.
