States had very different lock-down policies. Looking at these same trends on a state by state basis should give insight in which hypothesis is most plausible.

Of course you need to balance that with.all the deaths.that would've resulted.from people gathering and infecting one.another. And the lingering cases of Long Covid that ruined lives. I'd argue that drugs should be.legal, which your hero Reagan and Nixon certainly.were not in favour of, for all their yammering about smaller government they were heavy into law enforcement. Eliminate the DEA , legalise and.regulate all drugs under the FDA to guarantee things are what they say they are.and nothing else you twist yourself into a pretzel trying to make 1+1=3.6

But the data shows that the drop off occurred before Trump became President and these policies were in place.
