I left the city after covid and now the closest town is 5 miles from me with a population of ~700. It has no police force. If I need the police it has to come from the county sheriff and is very likely 20 miles from me, likely further.

When I attended a law enforcement oriented sociology course in the 1970s, we were told that only 5 percent of violent crimes committed by persons other than close acquaintances of the victim were ever solved.

when i lived in houston, there was a crazy woman that showed up to her father's office with a cross bow. she was shot by several employees. evidently she forgot she was in texas
