I remember reading this article on FEE and while I took a lot from it then, I'm taking even more from it now. Only a few minutes before I read this for the second time did I have a few colleagues discuss with me how much recent criticism they have gotten from others - I'm being vague here for obvious reasons - which, of course, are beyond their control.
Not everyone will like the work that we do, but the focus shouldn't be on outside criticism, especially from those who have nothing better to do than to criticize what we're saying. Instead, focusing on our craft is the best way to continue looking forward to, and ultimately mastering it.
I once listened to a podcast from an author who once said, and I'm paraphrasing, "If you read a bad review from a reader, the best way forward is to move on and keep focusing on your current work in progress." Truer words have never been spoken.
