Excellent write-up, and yes, I remember back during my own school days how much I dreaded going. What kind of kid wants to sit at a desk and be told what to study and when for 7-8 hours?
And what did most people learn in school? Hardly a thing - I recently had to explain to someone my age (34) who Patrick Henry was.
As for violence and drug increases in school, I know that in my old high school, students are now forced to walk in through metal detectors. Back when I was there starting in my junior year, we were under perpetual lockdown, meaning the doors locked when the day began (except for those leading to the annex building for obvious reasons), but staff heavily monitored them.
Not to mention - don't speak unless spoken to except during designated times (lunch), stand in line and walk single file, recitation is rewarded, etc. I can go on and on. Yeah, it's no wonder people are so disillusioned, and I guarantee that you'll see those dissatisfaction scores rise.
Only upside at that old school now was - graduation rates surprisingly increased. After they outsourced help to members of the Cleveland Browns. True story - it's all written in the annual calendar my parents still get from the district.
It could be worse. You could be here in Loudoun County, Virginia, whose public schools have a history of protecting male sex offenders over the interests of females. When three high school males raised issues with a 'trans' female using and undressing in the boys' locker room, the young men were punished and suspended. Get your children out of government schools.
