I was surprised when I first encountered people on what I considered my side taking the position that the government is good and effective, they 'believe' in government.
So, so true. I read Gatto's piece in full and it's one I've reverted to a few times. I've seen, on a few other Substacks, similar numbers in which government, regardless of how much it spends, does not translate into better performances. Unfortunately, many of those same posts have also implied findings in that many, many Americans think that the problem is the government isn't spending enough. If only they understood just how much money, per student, the government already spends money on - stolen money - plus the fact that spending has only gone up over the past 50 years, maybe a few will start changing their minds.
