Cynthia Erivo's bizarre reaction to a fan's poster continues Hollywood's streak of lead actors sabotaging their own films with self-importance and manufactured grievances.
People shit themselves because the movie poster wasn’t EXACTLY like the theatre poster (“how dare they omit the red lipstick?!?”) so there’s been a lot of pearl clutching on that side too. Movies ARE different from live theatre… everybody needs to grow up.
Jon, I like how you worded this piece right here: "Nor am I saying that racial or sexual inequality never existed. What I am saying is that we’ve created a culture in which people see themselves more and more in terms of identity."
It's sad that, when we critique the latter, the part in which you say "we’ve created a culture in which people see themselves more and more in terms of identity," there's a chance we could be ridiculed as "deniers," or something even more. But we've never denied that past oppressions existed; they definitely did.
Instead, we're critiquing what has become an "Us vs. Them" mentality. No different from what Marx envisioned in his class struggles in the 19th century. Some may ask us how we can relate the current version of "Us vs. Them" to Marxism. It's the entire format and mentality that provides that link. That's something I'd like to see more who follow the "Us vs. Them" mindset understand.
Instead of Proletariat vs. Bourgeoisie, it's now masked in acronyms like DEI, and others.

I haven't seen Hamilton, perhaps because I had some of the same reservations as you did. But my hunch is I'd like it ... likely for the same reasons you did.
If you decide to give it a try, I suggest getting the original cast soundtrack and spinning that 3-4 times. Then (assuming you like that) you can get a good recorded version of the performance (original cast) on Disney+.

Read the book / hated it!

Bingo.

Totally agree, on all counts. My wife drug me to see the original cast production of Wicked in New York and I just loved it.
I wonder what you think of this? https://hamannature.substack.com/p/hating-on-hamilton?r=2u0knv

"I am a real life human being, who chose to look right down the barrel of the camera to you, the viewer"
Oh, Puh-leeeeeze.
I had the same exact reaction as you. Lol!
