Fascism is by definition a 'softer' version of socialism than communism is. He wasn't right about what he should have done, but he was correct about what he had done.
Anyone claiming fascism is "on the right" is basically self-proclaiming that they are a communist. It is to the right of only communism. It is on the left, generally, just not as far.
