Why Elon Musk Was 100% Right to Allow Alex Jones to Return to Twitter (X)
On Monday, I appeared on Austin Peterson’s show to explain why Elon Musk’s decision to restore the account of the controversial Jones was the correct call.
Alex Jones is back on Twitter—or X or whatever you want to call it—as most readers probably already know.
The BBC has the story.
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has returned to X - formerly Twitter - by reposting a message by controversial influencer Andrew Tate.
Tate's message praised both Jones and X owner Elon Musk, claiming: "We're back"
His account was reinstated after a poll by Musk, with 70% of roughly two million respondents voting to lift the ban.
Jones is most notorious for falsely claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting was staged.
He was ordered to pay $1.5bn (£1.32bn) in damages to family members of the victims, after courts found he had caused them to be subjected to harassment and death threats with his false claims.
Like most people, I know who Jones is, though I’ve never listened to his show and consider him a bit of a quack (though Jones isn’t wrong about everything).
That said, I was appalled when Twitter, which had marketed itself as a free speech platform, banned Jones in 2018.
I feared Twitter’s action would lead to more bans and further encroachments on free speech, and boy was I right.
Just that fast, Twitter and other social media went from banning people like Jones and Milo Yiannopoulos to suspending and banning people like Harvard epidemiologist Martin Kulldorff, vaccine pioneer Robert Malone, former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson and countless others who opposed the government’s lockdown or vaccine policies.
It was—and I am not being hyperbolic when I say this—one of the most frightening things I’ve ever witnessed. And what is even more terrifying was to learn much of the censorship was being directed by officials at the FBI, DHS, and other government agencies.
On Monday, I appeared on Austin Peterson’s show (like his channel on Rumble) to explain why Musk’s decision to restore the account of the controversial Jones was 100 percent the correct call. (32:00 mark)
Jones and Musk are both operatives with backgrounds and ties to CIA...it’s a big “who cares”
