Why Donald Trump Should Appoint RFK Jr. CIA Director if He Wins

I’m not sure there’s a man alive today who can bring the CIA to heel. But if there is such a man, it just might be RFK Jr.

On Friday, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he was pulling out of the 2024 presidential contest and supporting Donald Trump for president.

"Many months ago I promised the American people I would withdraw from the race if I became a spoiler,” Kennedy said in his speech. “In my heart, I no longer believe I have a realistic path to electoral victory.”

It’s yet another exciting turn in an election that has been full of twists.

Less than two months ago President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump debated on CNN, a debacle that sent Biden’s poll numbers crashing and prompted Democrats to admit what Republicans had been saying for years was: Biden had lost his fastball (to put it politely).

A few weeks later there was the assassination attempt on Trump’s life, which sent Democrats and media into a full blown panic. A week later, under immense pressure from Democratic leaders, Biden announced he would not seek re-election in November.

For nearly two month’s, Trump held the momentum in the race, and week after week he saw his chances of re-election increase in betting markets. But Biden’s withdrawal from the race changed everything.

With a compliant media giving Kamala Harris the Obama treatment, her numbers soared. Now, RFK’s Jr.’s withdrawal could see momentum shift back Trump’s way.

Polling has consistently shown that RFK Jr. was taking more votes away from Trump than Harris, and his decision to endorse Trump could make a difference in what I expect to be a very tight race.

RFK Jr. explained why he decided to throw his weight behind Trump. In his remarks, he explained that several issues were of particular importance to him, including free speech, the quagmire in Ukraine, and the indoctrination of children.

"One of the two candidates has adopted these issues as his own to the point where he has asked to enlist me in his administration,” RFK Jr. said. “I'm speaking, of course, of Donald Trump."

I’m making no predictions (at least not today) on which candidate will claim the presidency in November. Readers of this newsletter are no doubt aware that I believe America could do far better than either Harris or Trump.

That said, if Trump does win in November, there is no greater service he could do for his country than appoint RFK Jr. director of the CIA, an agency that has for far too long operated without accountability.

Put aside for now the assassinations and coups from decades ago.
