The New 'Bonhoeffer' Movie Looks Absolutely Amazing
Bonhoeffer comes out on November 22, 2024. I, for one, will be going to see it.
Over the weekend I went to see Matt Walsh’s new hit documentary Am I a Racist? with a friend. It was good, and I wrote a review of the film that I’ll be posting in a few days.
As much as I enjoyed Walsh’s movie, the previews for several upcoming films moved as much or more as the feature film.
Some people might find this strange, but it makes sense, at least to me. Movie trailers are the distilled versions of movies themselves; they contain the best lines, the most dramatic scenes, and a pounding score that is designed to make us feel.
There were several movies previewed that look excellent, but the one I want to talk about right now is Bonhoeffer, a historical drama written and directed by Todd Komarnicki, a producer of Elf and director of Sully.
As readers can likely guess, the film is based on the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906 – 1945), the German pastor, pacifist, and anti-Nazi dissident. Last year I read Eric Metaxas’ biography of the Christian martyr—Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Prophet, Spy—which inspired a couple of articles on Bonhoeffer’s upbringing and break from nationalism.
For years I’ve waited for a great epic film on Bonhoeffer, and it appears like we’ll have one. The trailer is absolutely amazing, in no small part because of the music that accompanies the scenes: Disturb’s cover of the Simon and Garfunkel hit “The Sound of Silence.”
The song is amazing, one I’ve loved for years, and a YouTube comment sums it up well: “If mankind was ever to get wiped out, I pray that this song survived somewhere/somehow for whatever/whoever came next to discover.”
The trailer, which I’ve shared below, is a work of art in itself. It’s almost as if the song was written for the film (which of course it wasn’t).
Bonhoeffer comes out on November 22, 2024. I, for one, will be going to see it. If the film is as good as I think it will be, it might signal that we’re entering a new era of entertainment.
Looks good.
ASKING AM I RACIST.... is weak... shows we are subject to crowd mentality.... its an accusation not a reality... its bullying and a bully needs psh back.
