The Danger of Secret Governance
According to CIA torture whistleblower John Kiriakou, the CIA makes Americans less safe.
On Thursday I’ll be a guest on Freedom Hub, with co-hosts Jim Grapek (Pavilion founder and award-winning producer/filmmaker) and libertarian health lobbyist Charles Frohman.
The topic of discussion? The CIA and other US agencies busily involved in the business of secrets, spying, and surveillance (and often much more).
Here is some promo copy of the event:
According to CIA torture whistleblower John Kiriakou - whose show years ago was an early Freedom Hub favorite - the Central Intelligence Agency not only hasn’t protected American political interests, but affirmatively “...detracts from national security”. And with shadowy figures enabling censorship so vividly during the past year’s Covid hysteria, is it time to consider an America without a CIA or other secret bureaucracy?
Charles invited me on the show last year after reading my 2022 article on Three Days of the Condor, Sydney Pollack’s masterful 1970s spy thriller starring Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway.
The timing could not be better. First, as readers know, I’ve been exploring the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, which evidence suggests was carried out by the US government. Additionally, I’ve been working my way through David Talbot’s book The Devil’s Chessboard, which explores the troubling history of the CIA and its longtime top spy, Allen Dulles.
Talbot’s book is history, but the problem with rogue federal agencies is alive and well. Just this week Politico reported that the Department of Homeland Security “has a program gathering domestic intelligence — and virtually no one knows about it.”
So, should the CIA be abolished? To find out how I’ll answer that question, tune into the show.
