My Take on Trump's Conviction
A certain former president was recently convicted on 34 felony charges in New York. How should we feel about this?
Nate Silver recently pointed to a 1999 Atlantic article that argued Gen X is the most “politically disengaged” generation in American history.
As a proud Gen Xer, I wear this as a badge of honor. Apparently so does Silver, who opined that this lack of interest in politics is why Gen X “is the only remaining sane generation.”
I’m pointing out that I despise politics for a reason: I’m sharing an article today that touches on politics.
As virtually everyone on the planet already knows, a certain former president was recently convicted on 34 felony charges in New York.
Yesterday, I explored the case in my column for the Washington Examiner…and pointed out this isn’t the first time a major presidential candidate has been prosecuted for political reasons.
I also discussed the matter with Austin Peterson (see below: 32:00 mark).
So read my article and tell me what I got wrong in the comments.
It's a valuable history lesson. Prior politicians and presidents, on many occasions, have done things we recoil at today, from the Alien and Sedition Act to 40 years' worth of Democratic platforms endorsing slavery, Jim Crow laws, and even prohibition (briefly). Thanks for sharing the Wilson-Debs case.
I'm suggesting a topic that points to the sound reasons why apathy is understandable, but the majority can no longer afford to remain silent.
