Andrew Sullivan Calls on Rachel Levine to Resign Over Trans Children Research Coverup
"We now discover, from insurance claims, that at least 14,000 minors have been transed either chemically or surgically in the last five years. At a minimum."
Last week Andrew Sullivan wrote that he was reconsidering his support for Kamala Harris.
The event that had Sullivan questioning his support was the disclosure of emails that showed the World Professional Association for Transgender Health knew that there was “little to no evidence about children and adolescents” (the words of Johns Hopkins University researchers) on the use of “gender medicine” for children.
Yet the organization buried the findings after conferring with Rachel Levine, the Assistant Secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, over concerns that the research would result in “specific minimum ages for treatment,” which would result in “devastating legislation for trans care.”
“So they removed the age limits!” Sullivan writes. He continued:
For these procedures, among others: removal of both ovaries; double mastectomy; turning a girl’s clitoris into a micro-penis; surgically removing a boy’s penis; surgical and chemical castration of boys; and permanent removal of the capacity for orgasm for both boys and girls. I repeat: permanent removal of the capacity for orgasm for both boys and girls.
But this never happens, we were told! Another lie. We now discover, from insurance claims, that at least 14,000 minors have been transed either chemically or surgically in the last five years. At a minimum.
Parents turning children into drag queens (see below) is something I never expected to see in my lifetime, but it’s something happening with a stunning regularity in America today.
But what Sullivan is writing about is much worse. A little boy who was conditioned to believe he was a girl (or asexual) can one day, hopefully, live a normal life. A child who has his or her sex organs removed can not. The child is not (presumably) just losing the ability to procreate. As Sullivan notes, these children will grow into adults who will never even be able be to experience sexual pleasure.
This last part even appears to have dawned on Marci Bowers, the president of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health at the time. Sullivan points to emails that show she had serious concerns that voluntary consent was not a sufficient policy when it came to removing a child’s genitalia.
“My concern culminated during a pre-surgical evaluation on a young trans girl from a highly educated family whose daughter responded when I asked about orgasm, ‘what is that?’ The parents countered with, ‘oh honey, didn’t they teach you that in school?’
I felt that our informed consent process might not be enough.... It occurred to me that how could anyone truly know how important sexual function was to a relationship, to happiness?”
In emails, Bowers noted that sexual climax is important in human relationships, something she knew “from my work with female genital mutilation survivors.” This is why the issue was a “red flag” for her.
Yet she nevertheless conspired to hide research her own organization commissioned that might shed light on the consequences of transing children.
For Sullivan, this is simply too much.
“Let me offer my answer to the question Bowers raised,” he writes. “It is despicable to take a child who has never gone through puberty and remove from them any possibility of orgasm for life — before they can possibly know what an orgasm feels like. Evil. Bowers admits it’s no different than [female genital mutilation] in its effect.”
He’s right, of course. And this brings us back to Levine, who in October 2021 became “the first openly transgender four-star officer” in the uniformed services of the US government.
“Levine should resign. She intervened in a medical process for entirely political reasons, putting children at risk, destroying all safeguards for them. So should the heads of every so-called gay group that have pushed and lied about ‘gender-affirming care.’”
Again, Sullivan isn’t wrong, though it’s hard to say what a resignation at this point would accomplish for the thousands of kids who’ve been mutilated by the multi-billion dollar Gender Industrial Complex.
Levine should resign. Levine worked with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health to bury research that might have helped people understand that transing children in not good, not healthy, and not rooted in science. It’s driven by ideology, and a twisted one.
Sadly, the damage done to children by this ideology cannot be undone. Fortunately, I believe there is a legal reckoning coming for those who’ve perpetuated it.
(Author’s note: The New York Times wrote about the emails back in June. The contents of the emails can be found in news sources, though screen shots do not appear to be available, otherwise I’d be sharing them here.)
Levine should resign and the Biden-Harris administration should issue an immediate reversal of their policies promoting “gender affirming care” for minors. Xavier Baccera, the head of HHS, should resign along with Merrick Garland, who as head of the DOJ has gone after state that have attempted to ban this medical malpractice. This is the greatest medical scandal of this century and Biden and Harris have done nothing less than cheerlead for its expansion.
Wow, that was a tough one to read, but I'm in 1,000 agreement. Not only should Levine re-sign, but let's hope that, in your words, Jon, there is a "legal reckoning coming for those who perpetuated it." These people didn't just perpetuate what they call "gender affirming care," but they blatantly hid evidence that went against their worldview just for the sake of protecting that worldview. One can't get much more evil than that.
